New Products Galore

Been a while since we have done one of these posts, Mostly new products arrive one at a time and spread out over the course of a few months, so it is unusual to get three all at once.

First up, while not a new product per se, Wykamol Thermal Dry No More Damp Anti Condensation Paint has been around for a while now, a new sized tub has been produced, already available as a 5 litre tub, Wykamol have reasoned that not everyone needs 5 litres for say a small area or small room and 5 litres would be a waste.

Now produced in a more handy sized 2.5 litre container, means less waste which is always good.

Next up is a brand new product from Liberon. Produced under their V33 brand Multi-Surface Renovation Paint is a game changer. Unlike normal household emulsion paints that are suitable for only certain types of surface, the Renovation paint can be used on multiple surfaces like woodwork, floors, ceilings, wallpaper, radiators, plaster etc. No more needing 3 or 4 different types of paint for the various surfaces, the Renovation paint has an integrated undercoat and revolutionary high adhesion polymers that means no run or spatter even with a roller on the ceiling. It really does take just one coat.

Lastly we have a new product from HG, which, in itself is a newsworthy event, adding to their already extensive drain unblocker range, HG Gel unblocker is for almost all types of drains, the gel like liquid sinks through any standing water in the pipes to get directly to the point of the blockage and eats its way through, in contrast to granule-based unblockers, the product cannot worsen the blockage and has no effect on plastic drains. Ready to use, the gel will not splash and is effective in 30 minutes and does not require a hot water flush afterwards.

Product Spotlight – Liberon Steel Wool

Steel Wool, incredibly versatile item that should be a staple of every handymans (Handypersons now, sorry.) toolkit, is one of those things that you never knew you needed until you need it, if that makes sense?

Steel Wool typically comes in 7 grades From the Ultrafine which is grade 0000 all the way up to grade 4 which is the coarsest.

Liberon produce all 7 grades in a range of sizes from 100g up to an incredible 6kg. Liberon primarily use the steel wool for wood care and the application of oils and varnishes.

Steel Wool Grade 0000 is a flexible, ultra-fine steel wool used to cut back between coats of varnish, paint or oil finishes. It is ideal for polishing and cleaning delicate surfaces, including metals such as bronze, copper, chrome, stainless steel and aluminium, or with soapy water to clean and polish porcelain, marble and glass without marking.

Steel Wool Grade 00 is a flexible, abrasive fine to medium steel wool used for light cleaning and surface preparation. It is produced using high-quality steel to create crumble and dust resistant wool that is virtually oil-free. It is suitable for cleaning, smoothing and preparing wood or metal surfaces before re-polishing, waxing, varnishing or painting. It is recommended to use it with a suitable solvent for light to medium cleaning of all metals, and Wax and Polish Remover to get rid of built-up wax polish, smoke and dirt on wood.

Steel Wool Grade 0 is a flexible, abrasive fine to medium steel wool used for light cleaning and surface preparation.

Steel Wool Grade 1 is a flexible, abrasive fine to medium steel wool used for light cleaning and surface preparation.

Grade 00, Grade 0 and Grade 1 are pretty much the same in terms of usage with the Grade 1 the coarser of the three.

Steel Wool Grade 2 is a flexible, abrasive medium to coarse steel wool used for heavy stripping and cleaning work. It can be used to remove rust, and is recommended for use with Fine Wood Stripper to remove softened polishes, varnishes, lacquers and paints from wood and metal surfaces. It is crumble resistant, and virtually oil free.

Steel Wool Grade 3 is a flexible, abrasive medium to coarse steel wool used for heavy stripping and cleaning work. It can be used to remove rust, and is recommended for use with Fine Wood Stripper to remove softened polishes, varnishes, lacquers and paints from wood and metal surfaces. It is crumble resistant, and virtually oil free.

Steel Wool Grade 4 is a flexible, abrasive medium to coarse steel wool used for heavy stripping and cleaning work. It can be used to remove rust, and is recommended for use with Fine Wood Stripper to remove softened polishes, varnishes, lacquers and paints from wood and metal surfaces. Clicking the bolded links in blue will take you to the product page for the grade you are interested in purchasing. Other sizes are available in that particular grade as well.

I mentioned at the beginning that steel wool is a very versatile product, below are some other uses for Steel Wool that you may not have thought of.

If you need to easily start a camp fire, touching Steel Wool to the terminals of a 9 volt battery will ignite the wool and produce a flame.

Packing Steel Wool in the gaps around pipes and conduits will form a barrier mice and other rodents cannot chew through.

If you find bathing your pet causes the drain to clog with washed off hair, putting Steel Wool in or around the plughole will catch the hair before it can clog the drain and you can just throw it away afterward.

An Engineer friend of mine fills an old tin can with Steel Wool and uses it as an improvised Soldering Iron rest, the Steel Wool holds the Iron upright when not being used and also cleans the solder off the iron when it is being used. No more burn marks in his work table.

Euro 2016 – Who Do We Cheer For?

Once again, it is time when the individual nations of Europe come together in their love of “the beautiful game” and spend the next month trying to be very nice to each other.

Of course, we will be cheering for our home team England, in fact our MD has even given us time off to watch the games yay!

This has raised a bit of a quandary in the office because as our Marketing Manager pointed out, we are an international retailer and so we must also show support for our suppliers too.

As he is higher up the pecking order than I am and in the spirit of “International Harmony”

We break a Baguette for the host nation France who manufacture and supply our Liberon Range.

We enjoy a Bratwurst and Frikadellen for Germany, they provide us with our Yogi Tea and Severin products.

We will also raise a glass of Abbaye de Bonne-Esperante for Belgium, they supply all our Ecover products.

And not forgetting Wales, they supply our Inspired range.

We would also like to offer a consolation cheer for the Netherlands who failed to qualify, they provide all our HG Hagesan products.

As Wales are in the same group as England our cheer is not so enthusiastic but it is the thought that counts.

Spruce up your Decking With Liberon Garden Colourcare Decking Paint.

garden_wildlife_lge

Can’t beat a bit of decking, it looks good in the summer, gives you somewhere to sit and really sets off the look of a well maintained garden. There is a downside though, besides being a substantial financial outlay, it can take some work to maintain and keep looking pristine, the UK is not known for it’s outdoor weather and after a few “summers” your expensive wooden patio can end up looking a bit tired and worn.

Painting the timber adds that extra layer of protection and can add to the longevity of the wood, it’s also easier and less time consuming to apply and easier to maintain than traditional sealants and varnishes.
