Goodbye 2015.

It’s that time again, when we say goodbye to another year and welcome in a new one.

We would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all our marvellous customers who have made 2015 another record breaking year for us at Homecare Essentials.

Since the year began we have dispatched well over half a million orders and welcomed over a million visitors to our website and we are still running at full steam, despite virtually all our staff walking around like extras from The Walking Dead due to flu, we are battling on to get your orders out to you.

Due to the weather issues and the aforementioned illness (i’m the only one not sick and that’s because I locked my office door at the first cough – it’s like i’m working at a seal colony with all the barking coughs going on outside my door), we are running a little behind in the order process but rest assured, you will get your delivery so apologies if your order is a day or so late.

Looking ahead, we expect to build on what 2015 brought us, with a website revamp in the pipeline and new products coming through the door, 2016 is looking to be a great year for us all and we look forward to sharing that with you.

Happy New Year!

Homecare Essentials Team.

A Christmas Poem – Merry Christmas

‘Twas the Night before Christmas, A Visit from St. Nicholas.

Clement. C. Moore

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes–how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.

This was my favourite part of Christmas, and was read to my Sister and I by our grandfather from a very old book of Christmas fables on Christmas Eve and I thought I would share it with all of you.

Merry Christmas all.

Save £££’s – Revitalise Your Outdoor Wear with NikWax.

The great outdoors, love it or loathe it, we all have to venture into it at various times of the day and at this time of year, you can pretty much guarantee it will cold, wet and miserable, even more so if like me you still have to get in some final Xmas shopping.

Most of us own a waterproof jacket of some description (this is the UK after all, we are the wettest country in Europe), that has maybe seen better days and just doesn’t keep you as dry as it once used to? perhaps you have been meaning to buy a new one? well before you shell out for a new jacket, you can probably coax out more life from your old favourite.

Introducing NikWax. This is a range of cleaners and waterproofing treatments designed for both the home market and outdoor community. Whether you like to spend a few days perched high on a bleak Scottish fell or just need to wrap up against the rain to pop down the shops, NikWax has you covered.

NikWax replaces harmful chemical and solvent based waterproofing materials with a water based formula that can be used in the home washing machine.

Use NikWax Tech Wash to clean your garment first. Unlike normal household detergents, Tech Wash doesn’t break down the water repellency of the material, it just removes any dirt or stains leaving the waterproofing intact and revitalised.

For complete waterproofing, use NikWax TX. Direct on the newly Tech Washed garment. It doesn’t need to dry before hand either, just run another cycle using the TX Direct instead. Allow to dry and your garment’s waterproofing has just been renewed like new.

NikWax don’t just cover synthetic materials, they have a range of leather protectors as well so you can now treat your motorcycle leathers, leather boots, walking boots and sports boots too.

As you can see from the above diagram, NikWax cover you for footwear, outdoor gear and camping equipment, so buy today and prepare for spring.

Sparkling Clean Windows – Windolene Where Have You Gone?

Who remembers this? windolene

I do, I remember my mum always had a bottle under the sink, looked like a really thick strawberry milkshake and had a unique smell all it’s own. For reasons lost to the mists of time, it was discontinued, the brand name still exists and is made as a clear liquid spray using a vinegar type solution, not the thick pink liquid of old.

Looking around the interweb, a great many people lament the loss of their favourite window cleaner, it was good, really good provided you didn’t let it dry on the window, then it set like paint. I remember my mum using a speedy “wax on, wax off” approach to make sure she got it all off before it dried. Now I have heard rumours whispered in dark corners that it is going to be making a return in 2016, If this is true, a great many people will be very happy.

Until that joyous day arrives, our friends at Tableau Products have just released something eerily familiar.

If I didn’t know better, I would say it’s Windolene. It looks exactly the same, it smells exactly the same and it cleans exactly the same, if not better than the original and best of all, you can get it now.

So all you folks who have been searching in vain for bottles of the good old fashioned windolene, look no further.

Banish Winter Blues – Make Your Home Smell Like Summer.

Winter is a funny season, it is both loved and reviled in equal measure. The short days and longer nights, the bad weather and the cold can make you long for the hazy days of summer.

Well I can’t speed up the clock, but I do have a solution to bring a little bit of summer early and beat the winter blues.

FabFruitz Room Re-Freshers. Some so called room odourisers or air fresheners, give you a scent that tries to approximate the original fruit or flower and often fails completely or sometimes have an after smell that can just catch the back of your throat in an unpleasant way, not FabFruitz, the fragrance is made from using the natural oils from the fruit itself and hand on heart is the closest and most genuine fragrance you will ever smell (short of sticking your face in bowl of the actual fruit).

The 4 current fragrances are “English Apple“, “Highland Raspberry“, “Florida Blueberry” and “Valencia Orange” (click the names to purchase)

Each of the containers holds enough of over 900 sprays, they are non-aerosol as well, no nasty gasses, just a fine mist spray of fruity goodness and it lingers too. It’s super concentrated and doesn’t fade and vanish after a few seconds like some others.

I took home a bottle of the Highland Raspberry at the weekend, it’s the other half’s favourite fruit and while she was out, I gave our living room a couple of squirts. When she came back, over an hour later, she wanted to know where the Raspberries were because she could smell them and thought I had been eating them without her having any. She was quite disappointed when I showed her and then was impressed at how real the fragrance was (she wants the Apple and the Orange fragrances too).

So while we languish in the depths of Winter, wishing Summer would just hurry up and get here, take solace and bring the fragrance of summer right now.
